This is an odd little found footage film that a friend of mine recommended. I can’t imagine why, because truly, it isn’t very good. It’s mercifully short, but its protagonist, if you can call him that, is excruciatingly obnoxious. This protagonist is also on-screen for basically 100% of the film, so this presents a problem.
Its biggest strength, and the reason I’d write about this film in the first place, lies in its bizarre ending. There is no big climax where a monster pops out, or a scene where a ghost manipulates someone to commit murder; it’s just a movie about a guy with a camera who is investigating a haunting. Its lack of climax makes for a somewhat unsatisfying view, but because this is some obscure amateur project found on Amazon Prime, its subtlety contributes to a brief moment of doubt as to whether or not this is just another entirely fake cash-grab found footage film. When I reached the end, I actually had a moment where I wondered if what I saw was potentially authentic after all, if only because the supernatural elements can easily be explained away logically. I almost think this is the only way that “found footage” can pass itself off as authentic in a post-Blair Witch world. It ends with some recap footage, and a single title card for the credits, of which there are 5-6 individuals mentioned. I’m unsure if this was a tactic to promote its authenticity, or that it actually only took 5-6 people to make this film. I’m guessing the latter, judging by its obviously low budget. I can’t really say I recommend this, but it’s an interesting specimen in the world of found footage.
