My name is Andrew Borntrager. I was raised a film buff, and developed an interest in film criticism very early on, due in part to a deep hatred for the disgusting, anti-intellectual tripe that passes for children’s entertainment. I take great pleasure in mocking those who believe that film is merely escapism. I will not hesitate to berate you for refusing to watch a foreign film because you require subtitles to understand the dialog. I die a little inside when the latest Transformers installment outperforms some of the best films of the year at the box office. I deliberately seek out the best of the worst, and I derive almost as much pleasure out of tearing apart terrible movies as I do raising awareness about the latest underappreciated masterpiece. I refuse to grade family films, blockbusters, or indie films on a curve. I often state my opinions as facts, and I typically subscribe to the “grumpy, elderly white man” school of film criticism.
